How to collect customer details before a WhatsApp chat

Most first messages say “hi” or “price?”. You then spend ten minutes asking what the person wants, for which date, and how many. A form page asks these questions before WhatsApp opens.

The answers are written into the message the customer sends. You can also save them to read in a table and export, or choose not to keep them at all.

What to know

  • A complete first message

Name, need, date or budget arrive in the first line of the chat.

  • Many types of question

Short and long text, email, phone, number, dropdown, choices, date, time and date range.

  • Steps with a progress bar

Split a longer form into steps so it feels short on a phone.

  • Optional saving

Turn saving on to keep answers encrypted and export them as a CSV. Leave it off to only build the message.

Step by step

  1. 1

Create a link and choose Form page

Open the Page tab of the link and choose the form.

  2. 2

    Add your questions

Keep them few and clear. Mark the ones people must answer.

  3. 3

    Decide whether to save answers

On, you can read and export them. Off, they only go into the message.

  4. 4

    Share the link

People fill the form, WhatsApp opens, and they send the message themselves.
