How to add a WhatsApp chat button to your website

A chat button turns a website visitor into a conversation. It needs no plugin and no code beyond a normal link: the button points to a WhatsApp link and opens a chat with your number.

You can write the link by hand, or let Whatslynk build it with a first message and give you a short link you can change later.

What to know

  • Just a link

Any button or text link can open WhatsApp. Most website builders let you set a button's link.

  • Works on phone and computer

On a phone the link opens the app. On a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.

  • A message for each page

Use a different first message on each page, such as the product name, so you know what the visitor was looking at.

  • Counts clicks

A short link counts how often the button is used.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Create the link

Enter your number and a first message in the Whatslynk generator and copy the short link.

  2. 2

    Add a button

In your website builder or page, add a button or link with a label such as “Chat on WhatsApp”.

  3. 3

    Paste the link

Set the button's address to your link. Open it in a new tab if your builder offers the option.

  4. 4

    Test on phone and computer

Tap the button on both and check that the right number and message open.
