How to create a WhatsApp group invite link, with a short link and QR code

If you run a WhatsApp group, people can join with an invite link instead of you adding each one. WhatsApp creates the link for you, and you can copy it from the group's details in a few taps.

The link is long and easy to mistype, and a long link is awkward on a poster or a business card. Whatslynk wraps it in a short link and a QR code, counts how many people open it, and lets you change the group behind it later. It does not list or promote groups: it is for sharing your own.

What to know

  • Where the link comes from

WhatsApp creates it. Open your group, tap its name and choose Invite via link. You do not build the link yourself, and you need to be a group admin.

  • What it looks like

It starts with https://chat.whatsapp.com/ and ends with a code that belongs to your group.

  • A short link and a QR code

A short link is easier to read, say aloud and print. The QR code lets people join by pointing a camera at a poster, a screen or a flyer.

  • See how many people use it

Short links count clicks, and scans of the QR code are counted separately (Premium).

  • Change it later

If you move to a new group, edit the destination in Whatslynk. The short link and the QR code you already shared keep working.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open your group in WhatsApp

Go to the group and tap its name at the top to open the group details.

  2. 2

    Copy the invite link

Tap Invite via link, then choose Copy link. The wording can differ slightly between phones and app versions.

  3. 3

Make it short, and add a QR code

Paste the link into Whatslynk and choose Group. You get a short link and a QR code.

  4. 4

    Share it and test it

Open the short link on a phone to check that your group's invite opens, then share it or print the QR code.

Where to use it

Communities and clubs

Put the QR code on a poster, a slide or a notice board, so new members join in one scan.

Classes, courses and teams

Share one short link in an email or on a class page instead of a long one.

Events and meetups

Show the QR code on screen at the start, so attendees can join the group.
